More Than a Field Trip — A First Step Into the World of Live Music
Every year, the Idaho State-Civic Symphony invites more than 2,000 local 5th-grade students to the Jensen Grand Concert Hall for a free, live concert created just for them. This annual Children’s Concert is a collaboration between the Symphony, the ISCS Youth Orchestra, and regional school districts, bringing music, learning, and inspiration to life in an unforgettable morning.
The concert is often a student’s first-ever exposure to live symphonic music, and we make it count. Carefully crafted with young audiences in mind, the program includes:

Students Performing for Students
The Children’s Concert features the talented young musicians of the ISCS Youth Orchestras, conducted by our amazing directors, who select the repertoire and lead weekly rehearsals to prepare for this special event. Seeing their peers—middle and high school students—on stage has a powerful effect on young audiences. Many leave the hall inspired to join their school music programs or dream of one day performing with the Youth Orchestra themselves.
The atmosphere is filled with excitement, curiosity, and the joy of discovery as student musicians share the stage and connect with their peers in the audience.
