• There is no minimum length for the competition piece, though students are encouraged to choose a single movement work or a single movement from a larger work that could successfully be performed on its own, or a couple of short movements or arias.
• The maximum length is 20 minutes, including all orchestral passages.
• Non-standard and rental only work names should be sent to Dr. Flanders for vetting, to ensure that they are suitable for the orchestra (not too hard, orchestrations that are not too big or small, not too difficult to find the orchestra parts, etc.)
• Contestants are required to perform with piano at the competition and provide their own accompanist.
• Contestants should treat the competition like a performance, and dress and interact with the public accordingly.
• The competition will be open to the public (seating in the upper stadium area only).
