Job Posting: ISCS Youth Orchestra Conductor/Co-Director 2024-2025

The Idaho State-Civic Symphony is looking for a Conductor of the ISCSYO Advanced String Ensemble and Co-director of the YO program during the 2024-25 season. Thank you in advance for your interest! The Advanced String Ensemble is an audition-based subset of the ISCS Youth Orchestra, which will perform challenging string orchestra repertoire and perform several works each semester as part of the full youth orchestra. Below are some expectations and information about the position. The Advanced String Ensemble Conductor will:

● Work closely with the YO Conductor/Co-Director Jan Eddington and YO Manager, Shawna Morrissey, in holding auditions, conducting rehearsals, and performing a Fall Concert, a Spring Concert, and the annual Children’s Concerts. The Children’s Concerts are held for area 5th graders and are designed to inspire students to register for music classes in middle school.

● Hold auditions (formal and as needed, especially prior to second semester) and select students for participation in Youth Orchestra. Formal auditions will be conducted on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Jensen Hall.

● Recruit appropriately in area public schools.

● Select and prepare appropriate repertoire for Advanced String Orchestra members for purposes of increasing skills and mastery and for performance at the YO concerts.

● Conduct rehearsals on Tuesday evenings from 4:15 pm – 5:45 pm in the Stephens Performing Arts Center lobby area as follows: (1) beginning September 3, 2024, through the dress rehearsal on November 12, 2024, for fall semester; and (2) beginning January 14, 2025, through the dress rehearsal on April 15, 2025, for spring semester (excluding the week of the ISU spring break, March 25th).

● Program, organize, and conduct the fall Youth Orchestra concert scheduled for November 13, 2024, at 7:00 p.m, and the spring Youth Orchestra concert scheduled for April 16, 2025, at 7:00 p.m.

● Collaborate with Jan Eddington to program, organize, and conduct the Youth Orchestra performance of the spring Children’s Concerts scheduled for February 19, 2025, at 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. in Jensen Hall.

● Assist in developing and approving various publicity items throughout the year.

● Perform such other responsibilities as may be reasonably required by the Symphony Association to further the success and goals of the Youth Orchestra.

● Not be subject to any particular work schedule on behalf of the Symphony Association other than what is required to complete the duties outlined above.
